Thankful

There is about forty five minutes left until Thanksgiving is over as I write this. Despite all the little things I may want to complain about I have so much to be thankful for. For a loving husband, wonderful family and friends, a roof over my head, generous amounts of food, and the list could go on.

Progress on the floor will have to stop until Jason gets back from his travel. We managed to reach the hallway. This is where it gets tricky. While he is gone I hope to get a lot done. So far I'm planning on doing a lot of small stuff- hitting the details- stuff I can manage alone.

Floors and more!

We have begun to lay floors, we have taken up some of that floor, and we begin to lay it again. How fun is that!? You can tell by the look on Jason's face. He's very excited about it.

We decided to go with a laminate flooring after saying how much we want real wood. We couldn't beat the price. I hope it looks as good. So far, so good. It is a little more orange than I was anticipating but I will wait to judge until it's complete. It's also not as easy as we kept telling ourselves. Don't get me wrong,it's not rocket science but when your brain is already on overload the last thing you want to do is calculate flooring. Also, trying to keep an eye on the flooring pattern is making me dizzy.
Here are some images from the past week projects.

Here's our new door. All it needs is a peephole to be complete.

I am happy to say goodbye to the fireplace for awhile. It's not going anywhere but I don't need to rely on it for heat! Thank goodness! We have had our gas furnace installed and everything is ALMOST done. Just like everything else. ;)

To keep from exploding... make a new post.

Things are good, really, they are. We are used to such a comfortable and convenient life that when little things are taken away we (more likely I) like to cry and shake our fists in frustration. My latest fit is a product of not being able to get out of work early enough, not being able to keep the fire going, and more specifically not approving of the placement of a vent the heating company installed today. I have an eye for detail.. well, I think so anyway. This vent is interrupting the design flow to my light fixture because it's not centered and is in front of the light. This bugs me a lot. It shouldn't. It's minor and stupid. I know I should just be thankful for having a heat system put in, however, then it starts to hail and then I hit my knee HARD on the perfect corner. It all starts to pile onto of itself. Deep breathes, I know. I can also look to scripture. This one fits perfectly.

Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thess 5:16-18

Relaxing on a Sunday?

My husband Jason and I are homeowners once again. It's been two weeks and we are far from being settled in. Nothing is in it's place, everyday tasks require twice as much effort and dust is happy to settle everywhere. We are dealing with a whole different breed of house this time around. I call it The Fixer Upper. Here are some classic "before" pictures. I will post "after" pictures as they come.

We are not crazy about the red and blue exterior but we have a beautiful Japanese Maple tree.

Our classic 70's kitchen. Mustard yellow is hot but not in here!

The kitchen is connected to a family room. Check out the floors!

Dining room with built-in hutch.  Flesh colored walls, my favorite.

Bathroom with original avocado sink, tub and toilet!

A master bedroom is never complete without orange shag carpet.

Everyday around here seems to be an adventure so I thought I'd create this site to share with friends and family our trials and triumphs. Today alone we were locked out of house because the product Great Stuff worked a little TOO well on the exterior door we installed and stuck our dead bolt together. Needless to say I had to break into our house through the garage window. Can't wait for tomorrow!

Deciding to blog about it....

the joys of home remodeling.
